NORCAL BOAT, SPORT & RV SHOW

The trailer has a vintage look from almost 100 years ago. But take a look closer and the travel camper has some hidden modern amenities.

Unlike its ancestor from the early 1900s, the Neutron vintage-style travel trailer has plumbing, electricity, a bathroom, a TV and a microwave just to name a few conveniences today’s travelers have become used to.

The Neutron is manufactured by Flyte Camp, a business in Bend, Oregon, that specializes in vintage trailer restoration and manufacturing. According to the company’s website, the Neutron is “a new luxurious, semi-custom, fully equipped, self-contained travel trailer that combines classic vintage design and modern amenities.

Flyte Camp and the Neutron will be featured in each of the upcoming 2017 Exposure sportsmen’s and outdoor recreation shows.

“We will display a Flyte Camp Neutron and stage it with period décor for a vintage camping scene,” said Anna Scribner, co-owner of the business with her husband Justin Scribner. “This trailer features the quality craftsmanship, the luxury finishes that you would find in a vintage travel trailer … real wood, upholstery, but with all the modern conveniences you would expect to find in a modern coach.”

Flyte Camp was established in 2010 and early on focused on historical restoration of travel trailers. Gradually the company got more custom orders, leading to the building of the Neutron two years ago.

“We specialize in making trailers feel very original,” Anna Scribner said. “We try to keep the footprint original. We incorporate the best of both worlds, vintage and modern, into one trailer.”

The interior of the Neutron measures 20 feet, 8 inches long and 8 feet wide. It has tall ceilings and doorways. There is a queen size bed, a stainless steel shower and a “spacious kitchen.” Birch and Douglas fir wood is featured on the interior. Some of the amenities are hidden within the structure of the trailer, being exposed only when needed and enabling it to maintain the vintage look.

The Neutron accommodates four adults comfortably. While having the vintage look, it is engineered to handle being pulled at 70 mph on a freeway.

“People love and want to feel the vintage, but they also want their hot water heater,” Scribner said.

While still specializing in restoration work, because of more custom orders, Flyte Camp’s work load has become more evenly split between restoring original trailers and manufacturing new vintage-style trailers.

In addition to their Bend business, Anna and Justin Scribner are also the hosts of “Flippin’ RVs,” a series on the Great American Country Channel. The pilot for the series was televised three years ago and then 12 episodes have been aired during each of the last two years.

The couple recently finished the shooting of a new series, “Beach in RVs” that is scheduled for airing beginning early next year.

At each of the four ExpoSure shows in Eugene, Roseburg, Medford and Anderson, the Scribners  will hold a raffle drawing with each winner receiving a two-night stay in a vintage trailer at a vintage travel trailer resort in Dayton, Oregon. Most of the trailers in that resort have been restored or built by Flyte Camp.

The Scribners or representatives from their Bend company will be at each Exposure show to discuss the work they do on vintage trailers.
